Last Dollar Road - 2004

Last Dollar Road is a mostly dirt and gravel, connecting Hwy 62 West of Ridgway with Hwy 145 West of Telluride, and skirting the Mount Sneffels range.  Its scenic and reportedly can be driven in a passenger car.  It looks like it could get muddy sometimes.  Rocks embedded in the dirt surface in some sections can be jarring.

Turn here off of Hwy 62 out of Ridgway.

The route goes through ranch land in the beginning.

Turn left here to stay on Last Dollar Road, otherwise you'll wind up at Sawpit.  Don't count on the road sign always being there.  A local told me it tends to get swiped.

The road goes through several forest sections.

The view from the highest part of the road.

A few scenes along the descent to Hwy 145.

Look for this sign to stay on the road starting from the Telluride side.

Final descent to Hwy 145.

Further up I had gone right at a fork, which led to this spot on Hwy 145.  This is Deep Creek road.  You'd go left to stay on Last Dollar Road.  You may as well use this one; the latter part of Last Dollar has housing developments.

Hwy 145 leading to Telluride.  Telluride is nice to visit, but the Blue Jay Inn in Placerville (between mile markers 81 and 82) is a nicer place to stay.  It has everything a beat-up biker needs; a good restaruant, sports bar, and nice rooms.
